RVC Small Groups FAQ's

What are small groups?
Small groups at River Valley Church are places where you can connect with people who share your interests, people who are at a similar stage in life or people who have expertise in an area where you would like coaching. There is a wide variety of groups offered. Some groups focus on friendship with a shared activity interest as a rallying point. Other groups focus on specific areas of study and provide coaching in important life skills. The small groups offered reflect the people at River Valley Church and continue to change and develop with the interests and needs of the people.

Our small groups aren’t designed to be gatherings of really "nice" people with plastic smiles who are trying to impress one another with their spirituality. They are groups of everyday people who struggle with life’s demands and who are developing a real relationship with God and a faith that works. As one member recently put it, "This is the real deal."

Where do they meet?
River Valley Church small groups meet in various locations throughout the twin cities region. Most small groups meet in homes although virtually any location is a possible small group meeting site.

Who can participate?

River Valley Church small groups are open to everyone in the community.

When do they meet?

River Valley Church small groups meet at various times each week or on a semi-monthly cadence. Groups may meet during the day as well as in the evenings.

Our small groups operate on a semester system. Fall, Spring & Summer. So groups have a definite start and end point. Group members, and group leaders, then have the option of picking up where they left off or taking a semester break. This system seems to fit well with people who have an already busy life. Know anyone like that?

Who creates these groups?
People like you! Our small groups are called "Free Market Small Groups." They operate on the same principles that have produced the world's wealthiest economies. We emphasize individual freedom, dignity and creativity. The Bible teaches that each one of us has been given strengths & abilities that can serve & encourage people. Small groups are created when our members have an idea, based on their interest or expertise, that can be used to help people grow in Christ through life-giving relationships.
